Milwaukee River Series
at RiverEdge Nature
Center
Paintings from Firkins' landscape series
tracing the Milwaukee River will be on view at the
Riveredge Nature Center in Newburg, WI during the month of
May. The series was done entirely on location between 1998
and 2002 and follows the river from its various headwaters
east of Lake Winnebago to its confluence with Lake Michigan
in the city of Milwaukee. Several
of the paintings were done within a mile of the Nature Center
where the river winds its way over a mill and
through picturesque Newburg.

Stations of the cross, 2008
Firkins returned to the studio during the
2008 Christian Holy Week to give his interpretation of the
Fourteen Stations of the Cross, a traditional subject for artists
for 2000 years. Consisting of fourteen 24 x 36 abstract verticals,
the oils are intense reimaginings of the familiar subject
using a very personal and contemporary visual language.
